Dust Jacket

This project was part of my Publication Design I class in Semester 3, and the goal was to create a professional dust jacket for a novel of our choice. I picked Flat Stanley because it’s such a nostalgic part of my childhood. The first time I heard about Flat Stanley was in kindergarten, and I’ll never forget the pen pal project we did around him. It was the coolest thing to send and receive letters tied to his adventures, and honestly, it’s one of my core memories from back then.

For the design, I leaned into a playful, bright aesthetic to reflect the whimsical tone of the story. I wanted to keep things clean and kid-friendly while capturing the charm of Stanley’s world. The bold typography and simple vector design (like Stanley holding letters) felt like a perfect way to represent the imaginative and adventurous spirit of the book. I also loved working on the back cover, where I got to dive into his history and how the Flat Stanley project became a worldwide thing.

This project was a great opportunity to merge nostalgia with design skills. Looking back, I think it captures the essence of the book really well. If I could tweak anything, I’d maybe push the textures or experiment with adding more interactive elements for a younger audience. But overall, it’s such a fun reminder of how creativity and storytelling can connect people, even decades later.
